Where do you start?

No one wants to be told you have to blow everything up and start from scratch. Boiling the ocean doesn't achieve anything.

So what does DCM recommend?

Depending on where you are on your own development, we have a number of options that can help define and align your internal options and framework.
Just thinking about dynamic commodity management? We recommend a short white-boarding engagement. This creates alignment of what you would consider and why.
Further along? Having a week of alignment with your existing direct and indirect spend sourcing and analysis group to sort procurement and tradeable commodities in your tools may be the right choice.
Looking to benchmark? Let us utilize our maturity model to review your activities.

What we will do is to take the time to understand where we can add value from the beginning. Our ideas are below - we would like to start helping you.

White-boarding

A one day session with remote preparation to create a common lexicon and conceptual basis for what you would like to achieve. One major issue is people using the same word for multiple meanings - creating the common baseline of the realm of the imaginable and the scope of the doable is critical. We base this on industry leading practices that we have seen,

Framework

For companies that have developed their internal concepts, this is a more advanced workshop method where we examine the strategic objectives, the planned actions and the people, process and technology needed to achieve the stated goals. Do you have the resources to meet the goals? Does the market have liquidity and structures to facilitate those goals?

Spend Analytics

Have you already implemented spend analytics - either direct or indirect? Did you consider the difference between tradeable and procurement commodities in that deployment?
If not, we can provide a short review of your implementation and help separate the two types of categories. We can then help develop the concepts for dealing with each type distinctly.

Strategic Sourcing

You may have moved on to a full strategic sourcing methodology review and implementation. Did it include dynamic commodity management?
If not, we can do a maturity model assessment against your current state management of tradeable commodities. This can lead to a framework for improvement for the impacted categories. We can show how DCM concepts can be used in all strategic sourcing actions
